Hi all,

What is the consensus on using non original LR parts? Is there an OEM parts manufacturer/supplier to avoid?
Since the price of genuine LR spare parts are so expensive, I can't be alone in wanting to use the available (less expensive) alternatives. However, is this false economy or are there quality alternatives that are reliable and better value for money? Is there a particular brand to be avoided?

I'm very interested in reading your views on this before I re-mortgage!

Cheers

depends on what particular parts your after buying , oe and oem parts are the same quality from where ever you buy them, britpart pattern can be total **** with some parts and more than adequate in others , most lr specialists know which to use and which not from experience

yep in all seriousness I would avoid britpart engine / gearbox seals although my series brake cylinders are britpart and they are still okay after 10 months and 15,000 miles..... some of their bits seem okay, my new door seals are britpart as were the incorrect door catches i bought and all seem fine and I have a britpart cardboard box with some pens in it that's going strong 6 months on :) but so many people have had issues...

I've had a lot of allmakes stuff come from ebay and that doesn't seem too bad

I have a Disco II TD5 and may well be looking at Head Gasket and bolts, washers, etc. Also service parts - filter kit (I noticed the LR fuel filter costs much more than a Britpart version).

What worried me was the massive price difference: usually get what you pay for in this world of ours which would suggest poor quality of 'cheaper' parts.

add g on to the end of the number of part your searching for it will give you best priced genuine parts

what he said, personally, unless a wallet emergency i avoid pattern alltogether and use oe/oem parts with a "G" suffix then i dont give a damn what box it comes in.

I have found Bearmach to be pretty good so far. Allmakes seem good for most things too though would avoid important parts like clutch cylinders and so on. Allmakes are good for your seals and bits and pieces. bearmach seem like a good allrounder. If its something really important I'd go genuine if you can.

You drove a series 15,000 miles in 10 months?!

I tip my hat to you sir! :D

I have all brit part door handles, catches and other door related bits quite happily but when I bought my new clutch I was psychotic about avoiding them after all the horror stories on here. I did buy a couple of rear indicators which were about £6-7 or something daft like that and when they arrived they were brit part. I ended up having to re-use part of one of the old ones because the new brit part part didn't actually fit correctly! I was just about to post a question about brit part suspension bits myself...... As have been said they are trying to cover virtually everything and in doing so some of their parts are just not up to the standards of OEM and fall far short which in turn ruins their reputation.

Can't really add much, anything that is going to move then I'd do A LOT of checking before I used Sh*part, but as has been said they apparently do some decent bits;);)
I DEFINITELY wouldn't use Sh*tpart filters though:eek::eek::eek: I usually just go on Paddocks website (Other shops are available;)) and get the filter '1 down' in price from genuine:D

The 1 thing britpart have been able to do well in my opionion is suspension, I have britpart standard height HD suspension on the 90 and a year later it is rock solid :)

Excellent.... I now have to work out which kit to go with. I have a 90 onto which I want 25-40mm raise, no towing, 90% road use with some green laneing etc and a heavy winch bumper on the front. I've just changed both drive shafts so would rather not go down that route.

How tired are your springs now:confused:, I put standard HD springs on my 110, and got well over 40mm lift for nowt;);););) my springs were very tired:rolleyes::rolleyes::D:D

Might be worth a think about whether you want to lift your motor if it's on the tarmac 90% of the time:confused::confused::confused:

The idea of a small lift was just for the look with some marginally larger tyres as well. 25mm was sort of what I was looking at but obviously they might have settled a bit so standard might be ok.....

That is my 110 with Standard HD springs and 235/85/16 rubber on;););)

15000 miles in 10 months no problem in a series. just loud and slow. Mine averages 300 miles a week.
