regrooving tyres

just bought some 255 100 16 michelin military tyres half worn i wondered if you could regroove them to make the tread last a bit longer and as far as running on the road goes it wont be or maybe a 10 km run to the petrol station for lpg and petrol the rest of the time it will be in the forest transporting wood and chainsaws etc and this is a pic of what i have

My 750-16's have written on them that they can be recut up to 3 times!

Basically, if it ain't writ on, you can't do it!

I could be wrong but the ones in the pic may not be, looks a bitch to cut that tread out
 
You can't recut if they are going on the steering axle if I remember correctly, I'm sure a trucking landy owner will be along shortly , I was planning to recut xzl's many moons ago till I got pointed to the laws

thanks for the info on that but they will be purley offroad the motor will be ready for spring time when i go back in the forest and it will stay in the forest and be purely for getting from the road to the forest with all our gear where we are working im not expecting to be road legal as far as doing it goes its a bit of a black art and i will be changing the tyres over for when it has to come back to my workshop for maintenence but it will be living in the forest so not to worried about that i just want to know if its safe or even a good idea to do it its not as if though it will be pounding out motorway miles just forest miles
 
You cant recut tyres on any landrover , as they are not heavy enough , sorry to spoil any plans :(

Recut tyres
Recut tyres are permitted on

· a goods vehicle at least 2540kg unladen weight having at least 16 inch (405mm) diameter wheels

· a vehicle with at least 8 passenger seats, excluding the driver’s seat, and over 2540kg unladen weight

· a vehicle over 3050kg unladen weight

im sure MOT rules apply in poland.....

having been in that neck of the woods before in local cars

you could probably run them BALD and FLAT and still be the most legal thing on the road !
 
Apparently, mine is classed as a commercial van, therefore a Class 7!

Even checked it out with the MoT inspectors!
 
Hey, I ain't arguing with the VOSA people!

If they say it's a Class 7 and OK with recuts, then that's OK with me!
 
I've cut old landy tyres no problem as long as you know what you are doing, probe to see how much rubber left.

Cant cut most tyres as only a thin skin left after tread worn off

They usually say regroovable on the side

Too many rules too many peeps worrying about them:)
