Hi everyone
my Defender td5 steering box was leaking in February this year and I needed to replace it for my MOT. I did some research and went to We Are Diffs in Birmingham. As part of the warranty I got my local independent garage to fit it.
It has started to leak from the front of the box, where there is a circlip.
Anyway I have contacted them about getting it replaced under warranty. There isnt any issue with getting a replacement box but I dont think Im getting anything towards the labour for the garage to fit the replacement.
Im a reasonable bloke but I dont think that that seems right to me, but not sure what I can do. If it had been after the 12 months warranty then fair enough, but it is well inside that. Landy has onlt covered 2k since the MOT with no off road use at all.
Any suggestions or opinions?

Thanks mate but I think they are going to replace it - just not pay the labour!

Cheers anyway tho

Welcome to life............ Britpart make millions selling sh1tty parts.... 15 quid for x which takes you 3 hours to get in to swap and 3 hours to refit stuff..... when it fails in a years time if you complain they simply give you another 15 quid part and call it even. Most unfair.

You could appeal for them to do the swap but I wouldn't if I were them.

Could you do it yourself?
Should be done in under 2hrs with tea breaks

no one covers for replacement cost
A lot depends on drop arm removal or rather how stuck on it is!
Bar that, easy job but bloody heavy, 2 man job really, a face full of steering box as you remove the last bolt is very painful, you won't hold it up with one hand whilst removing the last bolt with the other like I painfully found out.:D.

Thanks for the replies guys - Ive pretty much done all of the renovation on my Landy myself but the company insist on having the box fitted by a garage - it was done by my local independant and hes also my mate so when they changed it I also got a new drop arm and pipes and chassis bolts etc with copper grease used on all relevant parts just incase this happened. So to keep the warranty on the new box they will have to fit this one I guess. To be honest its not the end of the world but I am disappointed it only lasted 6 months.

Cheers

I had one that never even turned in anger. Fluid peed out the input seal as I was filling up the system. Large scale place in Wales did it forget the name now. Took it else where and apparently it was short of ball bearings in the race too. "Pressure tested before despatch " my ass:rolleyes:
