Refurb of a spare compressor

Got a spare EAS set off ebay and just refurbed the compressor this morning. However, on testing it, there isn't much suction still. I gave it new seals and liner and o-rings.

The exhaust seems ok. I can put my finger over the hole, but with some effort. That would lead me to think a seal's knackered and its sucking air in from somewhere other than the filter hole, but they all looked ok.

Any ideas?

You did replace the blanking screw for crank access i take it. Other than gasket being knackered that is the only other place it can suck air. If everything is sealed properly exhaust valve is not seating properly.

When I said exhaust, I meant of the compressor, where the violet(?) pipe would attach. I'm playing with it on the bench as its a spare.

The paper seal was slightly damaged around one of the three screw holes. A bit missing. So I've put some gasket sealent on it and just waiting for it to dry before I try again. And yes, I did replace the blanking screw

I replaced the o-ring under the reed valves. But didn't check/adjust and I'm not sure what purpose they serve so don't know if they could be at fault?

If you look at my "How to" it describes how to set up the reed valves. Follow it. If all the crankcase is sealed and there is no suction from inlet. The exhaust valve is not seated correctly. It MUST sit square ON O'ring to form a seal. If it is one of the Dunlop compressors made in China or Japan. The O'ring you get from eBay maybe the wrong thickness. These compressors have a thicker Jap spec O'ring and the recess is cut to suit. The standard O'ring will not sit slightly above the recess as it should do to form a seat. It will be level with or below the recess which is no good. The O'ring should be secured in place with a little silicone anyway. So if you have a thin O'ring just put a little silicone in the recess. A smear of grease on reed valve and fit it press down very gently to settle it square. The O'ring should settle at correct height. When silicone has gone off remove valve and clean up. Then replace.

The man's a genius. It was the o-ring/reed valve combo. Replaced the o-ring with a different one. The old one sat flush, if not low. The new new one sits a fraction high - you can just feel it if you run your finger over it. Put it all back together and great suction!
