Is there anyone that does diff refurbs at sensible price or is it just a case of trying to find one on Ebay and risking condition? (looking for 10 spline for my classic)

not difficult to do your self if you have a set of pullers, providing you use timken bearings theres no awkweard setting ,i can explain if needed

Is it possible to buy the parts as mine has the flange that connects to the prop missing etc as apparently it was ripped out when the previous owner was off roading?

yes parts are easy to get id think you need ,though there are earlier diffs, rtc2726 x 2,539706 x1 ,539707 x1 frc8220 x1 and flange 236632 add a g to bearing numbers to get timken

I found these while i was looking for an L322 diff which they dont do but it appears they do the classic 10 spline although their site is a bit glitchy.
Don't know anything about them

Why buy recon ? Loads of good s/h ones about cheap, very easy to check before you buy
It just so happens I have a very good RRC 10 spline diff cheap, I will be at Peterborough land rover show if interested.

The bits that are likely to wear - bearings, ring gears and pinions, seals and the like - are all replaceable and not exorbitantly priced, so it's not impossible to tackle yourself.

There is s bit more to setting a diff up than plonking new bits in it.

No not impossible, but if you are fitting a new crown and pinion a few shims maybe needed other than the ones that came out. When you have done a few you will know what i mean.

I've done one or two thank you! On Triumph Heralds and Spitfires as well as Morris Oxfords in my youth, in addition to our old Series. Oh, and a 101 Vauxhall Victor, come to think of it. Poverty and lack of the internet meant that a lot of spares were sourced from scrapyards, so in some ways it's amazing that our repairs lasted as long as they did. The Land Rover's a special case as it's designed with adjustment in mind in a way that some of the others aren't. So you're at least in with a chance of finding the sweet spot.
