Refitting of Steering Relay top seal

I cannot work out what is going on with this seal.

I have bought part no 213340 on Ebay. From what I can tell, this part should fit all the series vehicle relays.

It appears to be thicker and slightly wider than the one I have removed (which came out in lots of bits, it was so worn, so it is difficult to compare).

Either:

I have got the wrong part
Or this is the correct part, and I can’t work out how it fits into the ring that holds it.

The Haynes manual just says refit it, and I can’t find a YouTube video where someone replaces the seal.
Rather than trying to force it and ruining the seal, can someone give me some guidance.

I have attached a couple more photos.
You can just about see that the seal i took out is smaller than my replacement (in all dimensions), and you can see how the old one would fit into the groove in the retainer plate. Whereas i can't see how i could get the replacement to fit in that groove.
Have i got the wrong/non-standard retainer?

Worked it out (or more accurately, a local friendly Landy mechanic worked it out).
Whilst i had removed part of the old seal, i didn't realise that part of what i thought was the flange was actually the remaining metal part of the original seal. He was able to punch it out, and then it was obvious how the new seal (which has no metal outer ring) would neatly fit into the flange.

What state is the shaft in. If it is rusty the seal will not last more than 0.0002458 seconds.

from what i remember, it was in reasonable shape. I have to admit, i should have taken the opportunity to give it a good clean before fitting the seal, but i do know it wasn't looking bad (otherwise i would have).

And if it is a Britpart one probably only 0.0002452 seconds.

Thats the average time a britpart shaft lasts for.
