Hey all,

I've got the red warning light coming on (same as handbrake with the exclamation mark) whenever i seem to accelerate. It seems to go off if i change to a higher gear, but not always the case. It comes on more if i'm accelerating fast, and seems to flicker a bit if i drive a bit slower.

At first i thought it may be something to do with traction as the roads have been pretty wet, but the TC light or any others aren't coming on.

And yes... my handbrake is off when driving, as is hill descent.

Any thoughs? cheers guys.

Well... it sounds like it, but sometimes i'd be labouring the engine to make the light go off if i was to try and drive any more efficiently.

It's literally only started doing it for the last week or so, not had it before... and i drive a lot more efficiently at the moment that what i have done.

I'll check the brake fluid when i go on my lunch, although when i was spacing my new pads when i did the disks and pads a few weeks ago, it seemed fine.

I had a look in the owners handbook and it means there is a problem with the brakes for sure

Well... i suppose thats better than it being with anything electronic or clutch etc lol. Cheers for the pointer guys, luckily i've got a half day today so i'll look at em when i get out.

I've had a look at the fluid level, and it's just below the max line but above the minimum.

Something to worry about further or just something to shrug off?

I have recently fitted a custom peformance exhaust but surely that wouldn't make me any faster at accelerating noticably lol.

dont know any thing about brake fluid
interested in the exhaust though it a bit LOUD isn't it?:) :) :)
got and piccs?

i'll try topping up the fluid right to the max level again and see if that makes any difference!

Pics will be coming of the exhaust sometime soon... just need to finish off the bumper yet as i needed to cut into it a bit, thinkin of some nice brushed aluminium to do the edges with. It's loud, but only when you really open it up, i'd say 50% of the noise comes from the conical air filter i've fitted. Cruising at low revs it's quite quiet, but still with a nice low tone. I'm thinking of completely removing the first silencer to make it a little louder on low revs, and add a little less resistance.

Don't just shrug it off. The light is there for a reason, to warn you something is not right with the braking system, or if your really lucky, the warning light!

You need to find out what is wrong.

Check other current threads poorly maintained vehicles.

That's the difficult bit though, i literally can't find anything wrong!

The brakes stop on a dime since i fitted new disks and pads, and that hasn't changed since this warning lights came on. I've certainly got enough fluid, and i had the wheels off last night to check for any slow leaks or anything! As far as i can tell it's just the time of the month for her!

Oh, and i'd love a decat pipe, unfortunately i use my freelander daily for work etc, decat pipes are only track/off road legal.

Check the connector for the level switch on the Brake Master Cylinder.

It is in a very vulnerable position - easy to break the mounting when removing/refitting the Engine cover.
LR broke mine and cable tied it back on !

check the wire to the handbrake switch and make sure its not trapped, you'll need to take out the rear part of the center console to see. If the fluid level is ok and the level switch isn't broken then it can only be a fault with the hand brake switch or wiring, I've seen a few times electric window and handbrake switch wiring has been chaffing on the handbrake lever
