I recently purchased a 2004 Defender 90 and it was already fitted with a tubular front bumper, including a couple of swivel recovery eyes. Think it is the same as the 'SHADOW' - see attached link....

Defender Tubular HD Bumper Air-Con + A Bar & Swivel Recovery Eyes

Is there any way of knowing how strong/safe the recovery points are or can I just assume (I think Land Rover fitted them as it was a demonstrator at one point) that they are suitable for the purpose?

If it is any help, they look and feel pretty sturdy, but obviously hard to replicate the force of a recovery without actually doing one!

Also has a recovery loop fixed to the middle of the rear bumper - again, it was already fitted so 'guess' it is up to the job....

Any advice?

if its been produced with theese fitted then theres no reason why they wouldnt be up to the job..

not sure that's strictly the case, a certain company who fortunately are RIP used to be very well known for producing brightly colored products that looked the part - yet were actually made out of cardboard

suppose it's a case of use and abuse them, but make sure you have a plan B
