I'm considering buying a 2007 Disco 3 from a used car place, and it has a reconditioned 2.7 engine in it. The engine was fitted in late 2012 and has done 30,000 miles since. It starts on the button and sounds good, but I'm concerned about the unknowns. So, I contacted the last owner, the company who fitted the engine, and the company who supplied the engine, and here's what I've found out:

The original engine seized, so the owner purchased a 2005 reconditioned engine from Hi-Range in Burton-on-Trent. It was fitted by Inverness 4x4, an independent LR specialist, but didn't work. So, the vehicle was shipped down to Burton-on-Trent where it was fixed under the engine warranty (which took 6 weeks). It has since worked OK, and has been serviced by Inverness 4x4 every year. Neither the owner nor the garage knew much about the engine, and I received the following spiel from Hi-Range: "I don't remember the car... the engine had a new crank and everything else, so was effectively a new engine... it had a new cam belt... it was pressure tested... the injectors were checked."

Anyone have any experience of Hi-Range? From what the guy said, I came off the phone less than confident.

Are there any problems fitting a 2005 engine to a 2007 car (apart from the obvious thing of making sure whoever works on the car knows it's an older engine)?

Thanks!
