My Freelander has been to the garage for making a 'chugging/bag of nails' noise with loss of performance to a degree, one garage changed to injectors to no avail, i took it to another for a second opinion who immediately said it was a cylinder misfiring and required a new engine . I have been doing a lot of research into reconditioned engines etc and it strikes me as a complete minefield!!! I have contacted a few via the FER (federation of engine remanufacturers) and the quotes have been £4-5k with everyone been very much of the opinion the car isnt worth it.. or alternatively there have been some online quotes £1800-2.5 K. Can anyone help me out with what the difference between the two price ranges might be?! Also any recommendations near the Hertford/Welwyn Garden City area would be really appreciated . Thank you
