Nothing like a good debate....
Hi @dag019, I am amazed no one mentioned using Castor oil.
A further option to my previous post is to look at "Super Tractor Universal" which is fine for turbo engines. A couple of well known makers are Smith Allan and Exol, available for under £70 for 20lt.
I use it in my cornflakes and I bang like a belt fed mortarI drain the oil from the TD5 and use it in the tdi, never had a problem.

This morning I drained the oil again to fit new plug and was supprised as to how black it already was after only about 150miles. Comments?
Last week I changed my focus 1800tdci's oil, had an issue with the sump plug in that its sealing washer was fubar and threads not great. To keep car on road fitted a Dowty washer and filled with fresh oil then ordered a new plug/washer.

Yep that is probably it.Could it be that the engine has galleries that don’t fully drain so there’s old black oil remaining ?
Dry fill and wet fill, find out the differenceand that is how much old oil is left in the engine after you have drained it.Last week I changed my focus 1800tdci's oil, had an issue with the sump plug in that its sealing washer was fubar and threads not great. Thank you, that is exactly the sort of answer I was looking for. I am familiar with universal tractor oil as it is what everything on friends farm runs. I will have a look and dig out some specs for it next time I am there, my concern was his newest tractor is early 80's so not sure if it was suitable for the later 200tdi as none of his have turbos.Hi @dag019, I am amazed no one mentioned using Castor oil.

I have been recommended tractor oil for my 200tdi previously. The reasoning was that you won’t find many engines that work as hard as a tractor engine. Kind of makes sense to me….but I’ve never tried it !!Thank you, that is exactly the sort of answer I was looking for. I generally seem to find Euros are quite expensive for oil these days... For my 110 I'd just buy more oil from ebay (Smith & Allan, Rye, Mannol etc) but for anything else, like my Audi I'd just buy a 5L cube of Fuchs from wherever is cheapest for about £35.I actually use the correct spec from Smith & Allan, sometimes mineral or semi. Before Covid Eurocarparts used to have buy 5lit get 5lit free so I used them, they don't do it anymore, used to cost £30 for 10 litres.
