Recommend me some oil

Hi @dag019, I am amazed no one mentioned using Castor oil .
A further option to my previous post is to look at "Super Tractor Universal" which is fine for turbo engines. A couple of well known makers are Smith Allan and Exol, available for under £70 for 20lt.

Suto is what I use for the tractors and my 300tdi

I drain the oil from the TD5 and use it in the tdi, never had a problem.

Last week I changed my focus 1800tdci's oil, had an issue with the sump plug in that its sealing washer was fubar and threads not great. To keep car on road fitted a Dowty washer and filled with fresh oil then ordered a new plug/washer.
This morning I drained the oil again to fit new plug and was supprised as to how black it already was after only about 150miles. Comments?

Could it be that the engine has galleries that don’t fully drain so there’s old black oil remaining ?

Dry fill and wet fill, find out the differenceand that is how much old oil is left in the engine after you have drained it.
Literally just jinished oil change on an mx13, ran for five minutes and oil is black.

Oil is allegedly 'designed' to stick to metal.. all those little magnets they put in it or maybe oil is just sticky
Anyways, that also means all the grungy stuff sticks too, ends up mixing with the new oil

Thank you, that is exactly the sort of answer I was looking for. I am familiar with universal tractor oil as it is what everything on friends farm runs. I will have a look and dig out some specs for it next time I am there, my concern was his newest tractor is early 80's so not sure if it was suitable for the later 200tdi as none of his have turbos.

I have been recommended tractor oil for my 200tdi previously. The reasoning was that you won’t find many engines that work as hard as a tractor engine. Kind of makes sense to me….but I’ve never tried it !!
