Hi

I've just bought a Defender 110 which has a few problems, indicators don't work, door locks need replacing and I want some bench seat putting in the back.

I don't have time to do the work myself so was hoping someone could recommend a garage in the Newcastle upon Tyne/north east area?

I've have done a search on the forum and found a few garages mentioned. But most of the thread I've found aren't very recent.

Thanks very much in advance.

Sam (looking forward to may hours of fun in his Land Rover!)

Try G.K. Jacksons, Priestbridge, Morpeth Northumberland NE61 3DG (01670) 787393.

I used to use Cheviot on the Tyne Tunnel Trading Estate, but no more (over £800 to change the clutch!!)

Do you have the bench seat, or will that have to be supplied?

Are you sure that you want a Landy garage and not just an auto-lecky?

By the way, I suggest that you go onto the 'Introduce Yourself' thread and tell us a bit about yourself ;) ;)

Welcome to LZ :)

If this is your comprehensive list of faults, I fear you are foolish in your desire to pursue a garage. These issues are characteristic of a Land Rover and achievable by most owners. :)

Are you located in Newcastle.?! I'm sure we can rustle up some help for you. :)

How much.?! If indeed a clutch replacement was all you had done, then that was ludicrously expensive. Did Ken make some audacious endeavour to justify such an extortionate charge.?!

I certainly second Jacksons. Very knowledgeable Land Rovers and other military vehicle specialists. Located on the South side of the A1 just North of Morpeth.

Helme park garage, tow law...maybe a bit far away. I always got on with Cheviot. Not the cheapest but never had a problem with their work or integrity. £800 seems astronomical old sea dog. Did you leave it in the slipway at low tide?

i always got my parts from cheviot and they were great to deal with.

Then when I needed the chutch doing it was a complete ripoff ... and the engine was running like a bag of hammers when I got it back!

Anyone who knows my Landy will attest that it is not only fast, economical and reliable, it is also very quiet!

It took them the best part of 3 days for a 4-hour job! Last time I did it was out in the road, by myself, and even then it only took me 4 1/2 hours!

Their excuse was that it's an old engine!

I didn't have time to argue as I had to get down to Halifax for a 2pm meeting!

Needless to say, Cheviot are no longer my preferred suppliers!

Tis true, how OldSeadog can get his 2.5na to sound so nice is a fecking miracle!!

I have used cheviot, they were ok, but not cheap.

Peter and Marsha at Spannermonkeys (Washington) are worth a try, esp with the electrics as Peter was/is a autolecky. Cheap hourly rate, and have gone into odd exhaust systems of late, but worth a call!

Never tried Jacksons, was going to buy a landy there, but their vehicle prices are a bit strong.

Definitely do the bench seats yourself, if I can mange it, anyone can :)

Also - have you checked the fuse for the indicators?

Geoff at Washington Land Rovers should be able to help you out wether it be parts or having a job done. Give him a call on 07880 853 493
