recently bought a series 2/2a Land Rover

hi guys, i have just bought an ex military land rover and im trying to find out a bit more about where it was from and what sort of action it had in military. on it military plate the vechile number is 7A ER 85 and this seem rare compared to any i can find i am also un sure wether it is a series 2 or 2a i have been told both reg is AKX 75E and the chassis number is 24128785 c.

2 design modifications... what colour is it? how badly molested is it, does it have any marking on it anywhere at all? red bits? show us some pics and we might be able to help. It might have been modified for arctic use (winterised) or for the tropics. Interesting.

The Military plate will give you an idea who it served with and you can get a report on its military history from peter over on EMLRA. I did a quick search on the forum but I cant find a contract date from your plate yet. But the info above seems to narrow it down to 66-67. excellent stuff. I assume its tax free status is sorted?

i believe it is from the signal regement either 12 or 14 im unsure really of its us as it is plated as general us but it has all the plate work and re-enforcement for radio equiptment but i thought it was always plated for this us?? i realise that the wing mirrors are wronf and im going to change them.

I can't see any red marks a few lighters yellow marks but apart from that there is none.

I also wondered what the strange plug is on the back it has a military trailor plug and it also has a a plug with a screw cap on the top with a plug with 5 pins and 3 holes i think???

If its got yellow bits i think its come from the RAF. is it 12 or 24v?

do you have a picture of the mil plate? if it says GS it will have been a general service not FFR. I think its a Rover mk8.

i will post some pictures of the mil plate later, it says GS and is 12v but it has plates under the front wings, has the strange plug at the back, it has plates under the rear wheel archs and is part of the signal regement its not a yellow more of a light green. i am un sure about the military plate because it seems not to fit into the regular plate system.

maybe its not the original. You can get blanks which someone may have installed at a later date. Sounds Like a Rover 8 GS. Join EMLRA and get the history checked. Its £5. Hopefully they will come up with something. My lightweight (IIa) is going through this now, fingers crossed something comes up. You wont find out much else through searching, you need someone who knows someone if you know what i mean.

I amuse it is a miss type and the Mil number will be 74 ER 85

The plug on the back is an earlier type of trailer light socket used before the Army adopted the NATO socket. The disc below the reflector is a blank to screw the cover on when a trailer is plugged in.
