recent oil change - black already?

On a diesel black oil is normal.

Yeah it's almost impossible to have clean oil in a diesel. Unless you change it every day. Or strip the engine and wash everything, in which case it will be black again in a few weeks. Trick is to change oil twice as frequently as advised in service sheet. Even then it will blacken quickly.

Yeah the bit of oil left in seems to be the most powerful dying agent known to man.
it going black is good..shows the oil is doing its job ..last thing you want is the carbon sticking to the engine components!
and yes it goes black straightaway as it mixes with the old oil residue..
as said..change oil regulay...in my motors i change every 3000miles...oil is cheap compared to an engine...

no,it goes black because it is doing the job for which it was made to do,plus as stated earlier it mixes with the old oil that is left in the engine.dont worry about it.just change the oil more frequently.

like zen says, change it every 3000 miles and it will soon clean up. i change all mine every 3k with full synthetic and its nice and spanky, even the old p38 dse i used to own with 170k on the clock used to stay clean ish between changes.
a sorted diesel runs cooler..
i have egt gauges fitted..i can see combustion temps..
and..if your petrol engine oil is black then you ain't got a healthy engine or you ain't changing the oil enough...mine (petrol one) comes out clear with a slight tint to the darker side luke..

No diesels are cooler running than petrol engines. Petrol engine EGT is much higher than a diesel.

They are fitted to light aircraft a lot. About £60.00 or so from memory. The manifold would need drilling and a boss fitting to take the probe.
