Attempting to start my rebuilt Discovery 4 2010 3.0 for the first time. Car cranks and cranks but no hint of a fire. According to my scanner, P0341 = "Camshaft Position Sensor A - Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 Or Single Sensor)" Is there more than 1 camshaft position sensor?

Car ran before rebuild but knocked due to a bent crank and hammered like razor blades big end bearings.
Receiving an RPM signal but unable to locate the CAM signal on the scanner.
Mechanical timing is good since the engine was running when using Holts' Easy start.
Fuel rail pressure is reading 39800Kpa~
Replaced the Crank position sensor using the "Special Tool"

Unable to recall seeing any kind of pickup for the cam position sensor.. is it located on the camshaft itself or on the gear for the timing belt?

What scan tool are you using?
Did you put new crank into the existing block?

Think it’s behind the left hand side egr, as u look at the engine

sounds daft but make sure it’s plugged in, if it is, unplug it and plug back in, might just be a bad connection

just an idea

may i ask where did u get ur new crank from plse thks

Ps, did u also time ur fuel pump belt

Crank was from a good bloke on eBay, it was £1500 but worth every penny to avoid the Chinese crap on there.. bought a new oil pump from him too.
Yes the fuel pump was timed correctly using the marks on the belt and the pullys however from my research it would seem not to make a massive difference if the pump isn't timed correctly (perhaps I'm wrong?)
I'll have a go at getting to the cam sensor wire, whilst in the car however will be a right pain. Its on the passenger side front assuming there isn't more than one..

many thks for the reply

did see this one where the title says new then used underneath , but great and as u also say u got hold of one that’s not a cheap copy

https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/New-GENU...iscovery-4-Jaguar-XF-XJ-3-0L-V6-/264310344622

apologises couldn’t remember which side the cam sensor was on, just thought it was an idea in case it’s a bad connection

Fuel pump does indeed need to be timed on the D4 , D3 isn’t timed

Plse let us know how u get on, fingers crossed is something simple

know that normally when an engine goes many people get a jag engine and fit that

That's the one, the crank I received was 100% new no doubt about it. 100% Perfect. If you're trusting (it's what I'll do when I need another), he will do a deal outside of eBay for £1250.

Never use ether on a diesel..

If you're spraying, then cranking you will get the entire "shot" into the first cylinder that is on its intake stroke..

Result of this uncontrolled explosion is the ring lands get peened down which will damage both the piston and damage the rings.

Also worth noting she has 2 Cam position sensors.

I'm not, I'm cranking then spraying. Could you describe as best you can where the other sensor is please?

Ahh cranking and spraying is OK.

Not brill but ok..

As for the Cam sensors.

I'd hazard they'd be around the front cover or mounted in the cam cover..

hi mate

didn’t realise that ref having 2 x cam sensors , know it has 2 x MAFS

So I assume then the 2.7 has one and SDV6 has 2

trouble is the manuals are so dam big it takes a month of Sunday’s to go through them , seeing there pdf

2 banks "V6" ;) 2 sensors ;)

Like me Jag has a V6 pez and has 2 sensors both mounted on the cam covers.

Hence the suggestion. ;)

Maybe the rebuilder has an idea!!

since he put it together!!! ;)

The one and only cam sensor I found while stripping and rebuilding has been on the passenger side head at the front, not the cam cover. It goes through the front of the head, just behind the EGR valve and pokes into the timing cover, coming out just behind the cam pully wheel.

cheers , always good to learn

think mines only got one cam sensor though , know it has 4 x camshafts

so on the SDV6 in the parts I’ve found one cam sensor which sits on the right hand side of the engine , hands up to that as I thought it sat on the left

I’m still trying to find another cam sensor ,lol, found one indeed on the right hand side of the engine as u look at it

am still looking through all the manuals for u
