I have a 1991 200Tdi hi cap which is getting very tired, and the bulkhead is terrible.

I also have a 1997 Defender90 300 tdi which has failed MOT due to chassis rot as we used to use it to launch boats with. It only has 80,000 on it and despite the rotten chassis, the bulkhead is absoluetly perfect.

I have no need for the 90 anymore, however the Hicap is incredibly useful. I much prefer the 300 tdi and R380, so my plan is to buy a new 300 tdi spec galvanised chassis for the 110, and use absolutely everything from the 300tdi 90 from the seatbox forward. This is pretty straightforward, however I am a little sketchy about the rear setup.

Are the current TDCi Hi-caps running standard rover rear axles with 4 pin diff? Would I be better off using my 300tdi 90 rearaxle instead of the drum braked salisbury and fitting a fourpin diff giving me discs allround? Are the halfshafts different?

Are the rear trailing arms from my 200 different from the 300?

I am guessing i will need a new rear propshaft as the R380 is in a different position from the LT77

Obviously I will need a new 300tdi 110 exhaust system, and wiring loom chassis harness, but is there anything else I am overlooking??

Thanks!!!

i would put discs on your drum salis or get disc salis much the stronger and all parts like 300 prop are std parts

Can the drum Salisbury be converted to disc? Disc Salisburys seem very expensive compared to Rover disc axle (which I already have) and 4 pin diff from 4.6RR (£200ish) hence me asking!

yes easily ive done a lot but does require 2x ftc3306 bracket caliper ,2x ftc1740 stub axle 2 x ftc942 hub 1 x ftc1724 1x ftc1725 half shafts 1x stc1268 1x stc1269 calipers,2x ftc859 drive members ,just bolt on,and 10x bolt for latter but cant remember no they are shorter than drum version,as later hub and drive member were narrower to take ali wheels

Brilliant, so it is a straightforward conversion with no cutting / grinding / modifiying as I was led to beleive by somone I spoke to about it a few months ago??

PS Hello by the way!

hi yes no grinding the only real difference between axle csaes is two holes one each side on shocker bracket for mud shield on later axle but i wouldnt fit them, with galv chassis you will have truck to last

dont know if it is any help but i have a HCPU salbury axle with discs on mine so if you need pics or anything then just give us a shout

Thanks for the offer, I am thinking ahead, the MOT still has 6 months or so to run but I`m starting to think about getting the bits for it now. Mind you I am still only half way through putting a new Richards chassis under my other better 300tdi 90 county hardtop!!
