Hi Guys,

After deciding to repaint the rear crossmember last week, I got a wire brush on it to remove what i thought was a bit of surface rust and managed to 'brush' four big holes through it!!

It's been welded before and is beginning to look like a patchwork quilt so time for a new one me thinks... Basically the question is: Where is the best place to buy a new one?

I've got a '72 series 3 SWB. I'm in Bury near Manchester.

I've looked at Buckley Brothers site in Blackburn and it's about 55 quid. Is this a good price? And also does anyone know any reputable garages in the area that would do a decent job etc as it's way beyond my field of experience.

Cheers for any replies - Rob.

at famousfour products its also 55 squid.
will try and find the name of a welder for you in the bolton/bury area.
(ive lost it).

Paddocks do 'em too. You may be as well having a look at yer chassis rails to the rear of yer back spring hangers cos you can get a rear x member with this part on if need be.

Regards WP.

Cheers for the replies, i've found a place nearby that will do it (phoenix autos) and have said around £200 including supplying the X member, but they haven't seen the job yet so it could be more or less depending on how much work is required. Apparently the guy used to work for Steve Parkers in Rochdale and does most of the work on a lightweight of a guy i got chatting to over the weekend, sounds reputable...cheers for the offer Slob, but as you say, the postage would be a killer! Can't do anything for a couple of months because the piggy banks empty but i'll post a couple of pics of the job when it's been done.

Rob.
