It's what I've done. Just had a look at mine and ,iirc, the lower dash only needs cutting if you want a radio to fit in that area. Here's a pic of mine and the rear wash wipe knob

Well an alternative is to locate the old wiring (assuming it's still under there somewhere, and wire it up to a new switch on the after market panel. It has enough blimmin' blank spaces for more switches, might as well make use of them.

That could be good for a temporary quick fix. But in the long run I have found it better to get rid of the aftermarket stuff, except anything that works and you find useful.
And return to a standard set-up, or slightly uprated from newer models of the same vehicle.

Doing this makes it easier to repair your vehicle, because manuals, wiring diagrams and replacement parts will make more sense and be easier to source and use.

You might get lucky and the old wiring’s there somewhere! I’ve got a spare, original, switch and clock panel if you wanted to revert back.
Have you still got the panel, and is it complete with cig lighter, clock & switch?
If you have, do you have a price in mind?

I remember why I packed it away now, it doesn’t have the centre clock ( nor the hole for it )!
That's OK, because mine is just old, bent and tatty, and I still haven't got round to making another one after 15 years and a serious wrist accident!
