Rear wiper problem

The rear wiper on my 97 300tdi just makes a droning noise when it is activated but does not move. It goes through the cycle of on and off. Could this be the splines on the motor having worn down or a sign of a worn motor?

remove your spare wheel,pop the cap up on the arm,and see if you can move the arm with no resistance,if so,most likely the splines,if not,then its probably a worn motor, either way,new motor atleast and maybe a wiper arm.

Turns out the splines were worn, got a second hand one from scrappy, now working 100%.
