rear window tints

hiya

i did watch u tube videos yet still managed to mess it up.

i actually took the back window out i think nearly 3 years ago, bought the film from halfords but maybe that was my first mistake

laid the window down flat, cleaned it with soapy water, dried it off, then sprayed pure water on it, second mistake, as ur mentioning fairy liquid into a spray bottle

then after cutting it to size laid peeled off the backing and held one end up whilst using a large squeegy , ut could not get the air bubbles out then started to ripple and crease

was very careful and took alot of time yet still messes it up , plus i think they have a slight curve in the glass making it even more difficult

after watching utube they seem to make it look so easy

maybe i need to get some from a proper company and not from halfords

after reading reviews about the pre cut ones they seem to come up slighty too short and no good

i would have no problem in having another go but think this time instead of just getting it from halfords again to search out a decent company and learn the correct process and steps in order to fit it without creases or air bubbles

also interested in the mention of using a small roller, is there any particular one, ie emulsion , foam, soft, hard etc

thks so much and sorry for asking such daft questions

On curved glass, spray the OUTSIDE of the window with soapy water, lay the tint (still with the backing film on!) on the OUTSIDE of the window with the backing film facing upwards. Use a heat gun on low setting or a hairdryer in conjunction with the squeegee and gently mould the film to the curved shape of the glass. Get it perfect with no "fingers" protruding in from the edges. Once done, spray the soap on the INSIDE of the window, peel off the backing film, spray more soapy onto the exposed adhesive side of the tint and transfer the tint to the inside of the window. It is now the perfect curvature, so will go on much easier. Spray even more soapy on the back of the tint to prevent scratching and use the squeegee from the centre towards the edges.
Dont be afraid of the soapy water....get it properly dripping with the stuff, it helps enormously and all just squeegees out.
Like I said, its all on Youtube.

Oh, and if there are one of two "fingers" sticking in from the edges that refuse to go away, dont worry. Keep smoothing them down with a soft cloth over the following few days, they will stick eventually.

thks for that dave, appreciate that

i got a quote and want £150 to do the back 3 windows, so going to have another go at it and at least this time will have hopefully a bit more knowledge

will also take the glass out as its not hard to get them out and can then at least lay them flat onto a workbench etc and not having to struggle with them on the car

cheers mate for the advice

Got my 5 door freelander tinted 3 weeks ago, tinted rear doors, sides and rear for £170. I am sure a 3 door would be cheaper. Got it done at Tint My Ride in Scunthorpe.

Pentagon in Enfield are good and reasonable, they have a contract with the main stealers round there to do theirs, they have been around for donkeys.
