I have a 2004 freelander 1.8 SE yesterday the back door would not open so i disconnected the battery then reconnected it after a couple of mins as this has happened before the boot did release and i was able to open the door only this time the window did not come down as before, when i press the button to operate the rear window it is making a beep but wont come down i have tried connecting the battery again and it still fails to work.I ended up having to force the glass under the plastic trim just to get the door closed but am now left without being able to use it. any feedback would be most appreciated

I have also now realised that the rear wiper is not working either, will try disconnecting battery again.

It could be a snapped cable in the winding mechanism, it happens quite a bit. The window wiper won't work if it thinks that the window is not fully up either, they are linked. I presume the rear won't wipe when the front wipers are on and you select reverse either?
There is a great deal of information on the rear window mechanisms here, a lot by me as I have just spent over a grand sorting out a problem that was only a £97 new part at fault!! Try searching the forum and good luck Steve

thanks steve no the wiper doesnt work as you stated have also realised the back heated screen wont work either

Because of the disconection, the car can't work out if the window is up or down or what. Like Sconner says there is a thread sonwhere which explains how to calibrate the window.

Cheers

unlocked the car today and everything now works again although there is some noise from back glass when window is taken up and down it also seems to be struggling to lift the window running very slowly,im sure this will be a on going problem that is going to keep haunting me every now and then.

Try taking off the back panel and greasing the runners, they are notoriously dry. There is a chance that you will snap a cable if it keeps running like that. The calibration sequence is to disconnect the battery for a few minutes and then re connect. The rear window will lower to the bottom, hold the centre console switch until the window raises to its full height and then release, it is then calibrated.

thanks for the advise sconner i will do that and hopefully rectify the problem for a while
