I have the grinder out today. I am wondering if this looks like factory rear step or previous owner addition. I am having a hard time finding a picture on the Internet of a restored 109 with rear step.

I want to slap on a cutting wheel, and get rid of it if its not original.

It looks very like the folding side steps of that age so maybe it is original, or original but adapted to fit the rear ( the brackets look like they might be non original, but neat enough)

Brackets look non original. The step looks like its shaped like an authentic, but unless it's an early type I'm not sure it has should have four guide holes to hold the hinge bar. Seem to recall (mine are lying in the garage) that they only hinge at each end and are spring loaded to fold. I've upgraded my rear cross member and I'm reluctant to drill holes in it just to fit the step; it's just an excuse for erosion drilling holes. Also prefer the look without steps: they can look a wee bit poncy for me. I like your workshop floor or are you doing the work in your kitchen! Heh!

Ignore that previous ****e! I've checked the parts list and the picture would tend to confirm that you have an authentic rear step!

They are a bugger to clean up. That rear one was the worst, very pitted under the rubber. My wagon is up on floor jacks outside the kitchen. Waiting for new tires and blasted rims. Tyres are a little hard to find esp. for original narrow 5" rims.
