Rear step correct operation

Hi all, I have just fitted a new rear step to my 200 tdi , can anyone tell me what the correct operation of the rear step is ? it stays up when lifted up, but is it meant to stay down or is it meant to retract all the way up automatically ?

just want to check I haven't done something wrong fitting it

Hi thanks.....when I push it all the way down and let go, it lifts an inch but doesn't lift all the way to the bumper....it is a new kit and theres plenty or resistance in the damper....

should the main bolt that holds the step on be really tight as it would be for just the tow eye or should I loosen it a touch ?

keep the main bolt tight.... the step should loosen up
