Just been inspecting the rear suspension on my 94 90 300TDI , im a bit concerned as the metal strip that holds the spring on to the axle has completely disintegrated due to corrosion . It looks like the bolts have gone the same way as well . Are these strips essential , or can they be forgotten about ?

very important, you could lose a spring if your axle swing down to much

I used a bit of 25mm x 6mm Flat bar and a couple of stainless steel M10 nuts and bolts to hold them in place.

Cheaper than paddocks heavy duty retainers, i got mine for free from work :D

Thanks guys , I didnt realise the spring pads where seperate from the axle ,I ground the the heads off the bolts and the pad came loose and the studs came out of the bottom of the plate
