Rear spring pops out

Twice now my rear spring has popped out from the upper mount and rubbed against the wheel when I’ve driven off road. Late week it was only a tall kerb!
When I jack the back up the spring sits loose. I’d have thought it should need compressing to remove it.
The car sits at the right height. Is this normal?
 
Do you have standard shocks? Are the springs the right springs for them I.e standard too?
It’s not normal no. I removed rear springs by removing shocks and jacking body right up and sitting axle low but you can still only just remove them
 
It is not unusual for a rear spring to unseat off road when the axle moves to full travel in a crossaxle situation and there are various ways to prevent this.
However popping out over a curb suggests there is a problem with the spring or the seat has distorted/rusted. Start with the spring, body jacked up with shock disconnected it is usualy possible to fit new one.

If it's something you're going to doing on a regular basis then buy a pair of dislocation cones as this will reseat them;)
 
Thanks for the quick responses. The ride is hard so I wonder if the springs are correct. But cones sound like an excellent idea. I’ll search them.
I noticed also that the bump stops are missing from the chassis rails.
It was a big kerb......

Sounds more like someone has fitted a short stiff spring. Cones are not a fix for this really, you'd be much better off fitting some appropriate springs.
 
How's that work then if it's popping out at the top? When my lower ones failed the whole spring fell out (on pig lane:eek:)

If its secure at the bottom it will be held in a vertical position his was rubbing against the wheel
which to me seams as if its loose & wiggling about. I may be wrong though.

I have just fitted new retainers & spring seats but I also have dislocating cone's.

This happened a few times on my old trials motor, being a tight-ar5e, I tied a strap around the top loop of the spring and the top mount.
This probably restricted axle articulation in theory, you would probably better fitting dislocating cones or checking if you have standard springs at the rear.
