Hi, i noticed a bumping from the rear of my disco yesterday and on inspection i suspect its one of my rear shocks, i don't appear to have a lower mounting nut or indeed anything for the nut to screw ontonor is there a bush in the bottom cup. IF there's nothing holding the shocker in at the bottom why can't i compress it?
If i need to replace both shockers what sort do i need as i have a 2" lift, i've done a search and i understand standard shocks should be ok? I've looked on paddocks and they list several with a no similar to an engine no, theres start LO mines L66---A.
All advice gratefully recieved

Why would you think a 2" lift is OK with standard shocks? I'd want to match the springs and get 2" longer stroke shocks, or dropped top plates at least. Not lengthening the shock stroke will mean that your 2" lift is pretty much negated by not having enough droop, thus wheel spinning and getting stuck regularly off-roading .. ;)

Mind, that's my opinion, assuming your 2" lift is just springs, or is it a 2" body lift?

i got the impression after searching on here that standard shocks where ok, but there is so much info about suspension mods that it can get confusing (to me anyway),stands to reason youwould need longer ones thats why i queried it, so 2" longer shocks or drop brackets, how can i tell if its a spring lift or a body lift?

Post a side on picture, and post pictures of the shock/spring and mounting points .. :)

if its a body lift (unlikely) you will have 2" spacer blocks between the body and chassis

if its a suspension lift you will normally have coloured springs depending on where they are from they could be blue yellow red or orange

i would get a set of +2" pro comp es9000 if you want low cost

I've got yellow springs...........priced those shockers at paddocks at £30 each, do you know of anyone cheaper?

Cheers

Is there a common problem with rear shock lower mountings? On holiday last week we hit a rough patch of road and there was a loud knock from the rear. On inspection the near side lower end of the shock absorber had gone right though the mounting, lost the bump stop as well. I've never seen this kind of failure on any car and would have thought the Landrover fitting would be more substantial. Went to my local shop to enquire and they only sell the mounts in pairs, £34 so have ordered them, shop will fit both for around £70.

Thats a common mis-conception. Normally found amongst Gaylander owners.

Yes they're heavy duty but it's a very heavy car! I've destroyed a bump stop in the past, and suspect that the same incident caused the hub to go a bit later. Over 2 tons (probably well over that on a holiday) at speed packs a lot of force.
