Hi all, just wondering if anyone has come across this problem before......

The centre rear seatbelt is tighter than a tight thing in a vice.....It just wont budge. I've took the cover off at the back and had a play around to see if there was something jamming it, but I couldnt see owt.

Is it a common prob with an easy fix, or will I require a new seatbelt????

I also imagine it'll be a MOT fail as well.......

Had this one posted by some one else recently. The answer is the same. Some ones life could depend on this device. Don't mess about, get it replaced. You know this is the right choice.

That was me who posted the exact same problem. I've not sorted it yet but I haven't ever had five up so not been a problem. Loads of freelander seatbelts on ebay but none for the centre :(

Had the middle seat belt lock up too. When sorting out the mechanism, it’s mistakenly easier to fold the seat forward, so the part which your back leans against when seated, is horizontal. That’s where the problem is. The seat back needs to be vertical when fitting this tension real. Reason being, when the vehicle rolls over, there’s a balance thingy part in it that locks the seat belt stopping it from unreeling. That’s the bit, which I assume is holding the belt stuck. That’s what happened on mine. When the back of the seat is vertical you can put the tensioner and real back properly in the rear of the seat, as the balance thingy is in it’s normal “not locked” state. Took me over an hour to realise this when fixing mine.

Hope that makes sense.

As stated above, if it doesn’t work, or you think it’s faulty, replace it. Seat belts are a safety device. It’s also an mot failure.

Hi all and thanx for the replies.....

Being a safety belt I wouldnt be taking any risks, but I have known this problem being due to incorrectly fitted belts as Hippo has stated. I just wondered if it was a common issue with the way Landrover fitted their belts. Or possibly due to people removing the rear seats and re-fitting them incorrectly???

I will have a proper look when the weather gets a bit warmer......I never have more than one in the back at the moment so it's not a big issue at this time and the MOT isnt due till may so I have a bit of time to sort it.

Mine failed on it's own, if that helps. When I was in the back I pulled each one. Not for any reason. They rarely get used on my FL.
