OP - that doughnut is dead, kaput, fubared - change it NOW - cos if it lets go, it will make a mess.

Change it and change the pin also.

And the center bush too - do all three, with quality parts, and it will last a long time - with sensible use it should last 80-100K IME.

The centre bush can be removed using bread - force it into the hole, and then using the right size punch, keep forcing - topping up the bread as required.... search the tube of you for clutch spigot bush removal...

IMHO, do not remove it, unless you have a lift on the vehicle - NVH will increase, and transmission of same through the drive train will not do it any good.

Rubber coupling bolts are M12, standard UJ/s are 3/8" UNF.

249782 is the GKN moulding/part number.

There are/were heavier-duty GKN versions on ebay, but you need longer bolts to ensure that the self-locking nuts grip properly. That's what is on my V8 and I carry a spare.

The heavier-duty GKN doughnut is part 249537, but you need M12 X 70 bolts instead of the standard ones as it is 35mm thick against 30mm for the original equipment item, and the self-locking nuts won't grip if you use the originals.

This is the one fitted on my D2.

Peter

IIRC, the above part number also cross references to the the doughnut fitted to the jag 4.0 XJ - and presumably, if it can handle a 4.0 and is the only drive member, then its worth fitting to a disco.:)

Thanks I have a replacement bush, the current one is poking out slightly so presumably I can pull it out with some mole grips?

Doubtful IME. use bread !!

BUT, use a proper punch, not a hardened and plated socket extension!!

And, don't forget the center pin !
