I do not know if this has been covered before but all of the threads I could find on a search were regarding the rear (tailgate) door not the passenger doors. I have a series and a 110 so am not particularity up to speed with all of this fancy central locking magic. However, I understand the principals and am happy working through wiring diagrams etc.
Bit of back ground first on the car first:
This is the mothering laws Freelander 2 which she uses to cart the dogs around and replaced her Freelander 1. The family have always driven VAG cars with the freelander being the dirty work horse, because of this if anything goes wrong with any of them they get taken straight to the garage. However, because I fixed the rear (tailgate) door on her previous Freelander 1 (there were many threads covering this and turned out to be the common problem of the latch spring) she has asked me to have a look at this. Logic being it appears to be the same problem on a different door .
The initial problem with the rear passenger door is that is cannot be opened from the inside or the outside. If the door is unlocked by pulling the button on the inner handle it still cannot be opened from either the inside or the outside. However on a very quick exploratory play, if the lock button on the inner handle is held outwards as far as it will go the door can be opened from both inside and outside, as long as the lock button is still held fully outwards. Once it is release the door goes back to not opening from either inside or outside handles. This is far as I have currently investigated does this sound like a common problem with a straight forward fix?
I am guessing the next step would be to remove the door card to have a look at how the internals are working and check all of the rods are still collected and moving freely, along with the central locking actuator. How do I go about removing this without damaging anything?
Apparently, because the rear door does not open properly, the central locking will not lock so the car is never locked. I have not tested this although I think the fob battery is now flat as pressing the unlock button does not do anything. I am hoping that once the lock is working correctly again it should be fairly straight forward to get the central locking back up and running (may just be a case of replacing the fob battery), is this likely to be the case?
