hi, as suggested i wil post a question here. right, my series 2a leaks a pint a week out of a cast iron plate on the rear right side of the block. it is held on by 3 no 7/16 head bolts . what is it? can i take it off. will something pop out and destroy my engine?
gut feeling says its an access plate for drilling the cam bearings but.... It isnt mentioned in ANY manuals.

ideas?

Ok found it, knew it was in one of these books I got.
It's the rear end cover for the camshaft as you suspected and there's a nice joint washer in there also.
There are no springs or anything that look likely to pop out and scare you:p

i think that you should get somebody else to do it for you on saturday although its sounds a big job so lots of money would probably be involved !!
