Hi, I have a 1990 ex military 200tdi, 110, which I have been getting into shape. I am planning a trip to Morocco later this year.
It is more or less standard other than the front axle which I changed for a Salisbury heavy duty one.
The suspension is standard other than I recently changed the shocks. It now has Pro-comp all round.
Someone made a comment when looking at my truck and commented how skinny the rear lower link trail arms were which has been playing on my mind. Is this something that is likely to break on a trip across Morocco. I intend on going up into the Atlas mountains. I have seen some video's on you-tube, looks like it can get a bit rough in places. I am not planning to do any real extreme off roading but will be using the Defender for what it was designed for. What I am wandering is should I think about changing them for something a bit more heavy duty or will the standard ones be up to the job. My other question is should I consider cranked trailing arms if so why. I have seen a couple of threads where people have fitting these and seem to have run into problems. Or should I just leave well alone.

Your off to inhospitable places and have Pro Comp shocks???? Make sure you carry loads of spares for every time you shear the top mounting point and crack the ring

Cheers Steve

Exactly, you need pin type shocks like the front ones when encountering extreme movement.
I make trailing arms out of 2"x.250 wall cds that can survive rocks and other abuse :D

surely he would be better with LR standard stuff as spares are easier to obtain, and standard bars can be straightened if they get bent

I changed the shocks as they were shot. One had broke in half. I was told Pro Comp were supposed to be much better than the standard LR ones. They seemed a lot sturdier. The shafts are much thicker?

If theyre fitted correctly Procomp theyre ok personally £12 specials and if your worried about it fit 4 of them to the rear.
