not sure if this has been discussed before, but noticed that the rear light cluster on me Disco only uses them for fogs, reversing light, when replacing a reversing light bulb noticed that the wiring seems to be there, but no bulbs... and the rest of the functions work off the bumper cluster, brakes, indicators.

if i was to put some bulbs in would they work, or are they not wired, i noticed some women in a P reg disco in the carpark today, arming her alarm and the bumper cluster indicators flashed, as well as the rear cluster ones, would be better visibility if i got them working i suppose, does anyone know if this is straight forward, is the existing wiring likely to work or do they need to be piggy backed from the bumper ones?

Having spent some time trying to replace the brake light bulbs on my sisters 98 300 Tdi I then discovered (?) that the brake lights only operate in the bumper - as in my own 2001 Td5 .
If you want to get the brake lights/indicators working in the upper cluster you will have to change the whole unit - more than likely you will find as I did that there are no connections in the cluster itself . The wires are there - and come live when brakes are pressed etc .But that's it - no place for the bulbs .
Apparently the last of the D1's were similar to the D2 in that respect .
Presume you could pick up the clusters SH if you wanted.

hmmm...thought as much, i'll leave it...seems more hassle than it's worth

Some have the 'full' clusters, some don't. It might be worth taking the clusters out and checking .. ;)

Mind, the cluster bolts are a biatch to get back in ... unless you have a pianists fingers with the strength of the terminator and dexterity of a capucin monkey .. ;)

I have these on Elmer
a 98 300
The wiring is there in the c pillar
just the light unit need changing to have the correct colour showing, (no amber indicator section) buy 200 tdei units of ebay or get to a scrappy and pull both sides. Wire them up off you go,

Change the rear lights, on elmer even the push in elec connectors were useable, just unplugged the 300 units and plugged in 200 units with indicator and rear light units job done

This was covered on hear a while ago some one posted same question
