Rear Latch - Key barrel issues!

Me again. My friend clumsily broke the rear latch handle on my 2000 90 TD5. Ordered Britpart FQJ500340 which was advertised on John Craddock for all Defenders without central locking but it appears its more for the 2002 models onwards.

I have successfully installed it, it seems to all fit OK, however the lock barrel from the old latch is not deep enough for the new lock. Has anyone successfully used a 2002+ latch on a pre 2002 defender? Seems silly but wanted some advice before ordering more (potentially wrong) parts.

@Anaconda thank you for your speedy response (again!) - yes sorry 2004. But as the latch fits, I do wonder whether ordering a new set of 2004+ barrels would work. I cannot find a pre-2004 latch, unless I am being completely dim. Which would not be out of the question!

Edit - had a bit more of a look - found a part that fits the bill, I'll try and swap it out.
