Working my way through a mostly cosmetic refit of my 90 hardtop (originally 2.5DT, but Def. 200Tdi fitted b4 I got it) plus dealing with the inevitable maintenance issues that always seem to get in the way of making progress.....just completed an unscheduled cylinder head gasket replacement in the last few weeks, plus timing belt while I had it stripped down, all made a lot easier by the advice available on this site, so big thanks to everyone who posts information to help the mechanically challenged, it really helps when you are working on a task like that for the first time. Panicked a bit when I first saw smoke coming out of the oil filler, thinking must mean a fatal piston ring or bore problem, but just found burn out of gasket between cylinder and oil gallery when I took the head off, and trace of erosion of the head. Pistons and bores were still looking good. Had the head skimmed, a broken glow plug removed, and the injectors refurbished (all through Pitcairn Engineering in central Scotland, top guys), and she's starting and running much sweeter after all that. Hopefully that's that sorted for another 100k miles at least (except the belt).... All much easier than I feared it might be. So back to the tidyng up work, and something much harder than sorting the mechanicals out - must have spent over 6 hours trying to chase this down on the web - I have a 2009 rear end door, with a matching or lock (non-central locking). Lock barrel is the post 2002 larger key/larger diameter size. Handle & lock appears to match part number FQJ500340. I'm missing the plastic (or rubber?) sealing ring/trim that goes on the outside of the door, around the lock barrel. Can't find the part number anywhere on the web. I've got the PDF part book for up to 300Tdi, but that isn't relevant. LR workshop site no good as it only lists the (smaller) ring for the pre-2002 handle. Can't find anything on this site or links from this site. Have searched every supplier's site I can think of, but they either list the same part from 1988 to present, which isn't right, or they list that part as 1988 to 2001 - EKC000030PMA in every case. Can't find any reference to this part after 2001/02 on any web site. It's not part number EKC00030PMA as that has internal diameter of 19mm, to fit old style short key barrel, and my lock barrel sleeve is more like 23mm O/D. I've already got an old (short key) handle (rusty) with a 19mm ring on it, so know that size doesn't fit. No-one seems to list a part to suit the 2007 handle I have. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.....it took me less time to do the timing belt than I've spent trying to find this bit of plastic! All part of the fun, I guess......

EKC000030PMA is the latest part number, from 2002 onwards. Have you ordered a genuine Land Rover one and received one that is the wrong size?

This site seems to suggest that it was too big for his 1997 door, implying that it would fit your later door.

Thanks, Retroanaconda. Saw that comment on "Sluggie the land rover" during my epic web search. Paddocks & Rimmer Bros both confirm their parts books list that part as current to present date, but Rimmers measured it for me and its definitely 19mm ID, so won't fit the lock on my door, only the older lock with narrow barrel and short key. Had another thought and looked more closely at the lock and it's stamped 15 10 14, which may suggest it was manufactured 2014? That would mean its a replacement from the original as the door has a 2009 sticker on it. Anyone on here got a 2009 -2015 defender they could check the rear end door lock barrel trim internal diameter on? I'll probably get arrested, or at least a good kicking, if I start sneaking up to the back of newish parked defenders with a steel ruler in hand! Will check with main dealers if no joy here, in case its an error in the parts book that they know about, but I suspect they will no nothing more than their books tell them.

Only alternative seems to be that I have a non standard aftermarket door handle fitted to my door - always a possibility to consider, but they are usually good copies. Any help from 2009 - 2015 defender owners with confirmation of size of the lock trim fitting on their vehicles would be much appreciated!

For reference, here are photos from suppliers of the pre-2001 (FQJ103840) and post-2001 (FQJ500340) end door locks which show the difference in lock barrel diameter. Old one is 19mm OD, new is more like 22mm so the same plastic trim ring cannot fit both, no matter what the parts manual says!! I have the post-2001 type lock.
