My '98 Tdi has already been retro-fitted with the earlier upper rear lamps (with the indicators) but I'm thinking about something different - and I don't particularly like the RDX lamps. What I was wondering is if the D2 rear lamps could be made to fit? I've looked at the D3/4 lamps and they have a different profile so wouldn't fit without a lot of metalwork changes, but the D2 lamps have the same profile...

So, has anyone done this mod? If so, how? Did you swap out the rear quarter panels or chop the metalwork??? Has anyone got any pics of it done?

Thanks!

Quite a few D1's out there with D2 quarter panels.
Bit of a ball ache swapping quarter panels, though having just done the job!

The quarters are attached to the rear wing and have to be separated after the whole assembly has been removed.

Once you get all that lot off you might find some holes on the inner structure to sort out before refitting can begin.

Thanks for that. I think I'll leave it until I've got a fair bit of welding to do then - sounds like a bigger job than I was hoping for (the D2 quarter panel unscrews and is held in place with sikaflex I understand).

My future plans include a complete respray and colour change, so it'll become part of that project I guess :)
