Why thank you

LZ has been the inspiration for me to have the courage to have a go. Plenty of people who have been-there-done-that-got-the-tee-shirt and happy to offer helpful advice.

I've learnt from other people's threads too, so nice to give a bit back.

Learnt from one side, so ready to crack on with the other!

Finally some examples of what birdshi*t welding looks like :p

That is a bit chicken ****ty! Haha. It'll come to ya mate. Aslong as its fused the metals together enough and doesn't come off after few good taps with hammer or u swinging off it it'll be fine. Practice makes perfect, I need to do arches and sills. I'm a fabricator/welder by trade just cannot be arsed at all! Ha

ive just bought box section for my sills,2 off at 1450,100x60x3mm from metal supermarket and had change out of £40.
my plan is to cut the bottom 1-2 inches off the sill off and insert the box section into the cavity and support it then trim whatever needs trimming so not to disturb the door posts too much, ive also ordered 2 body mounts as mine are "suspect".

this is my plan, there are many like it,but this one is mine.....

Put pics up, this method sounds interesting. I cut slits in the floor along the center of the gap and welded along them. Worked well. Could only do one side as the other had not a lot of floor left

Bargain price for the metal mate.

As you can see I had some inner sill left and used that as a backstop to the new box section. I removed all of the outer sill though, but didn't need to cut off any of the support posts - the box slipped in between the remnants of the inner sill and the posts. Pretty tight though, needed the big hammer :D

Be interested to hear how you get on. My offside sill is nowhere near as knackered as the nearside, so potentially I could leave more in place. My worry would be that the box might be fractionally too wide to sit properly against the floor pan. I puddle-welded the box into place, but you need good contact between the floor and box to make that work well. (Puddle-welding is something I can do with ease :D )

ive done the box section aswell but ive cut the inner and out lip aswell as some of the floor was in poor state aswell. when box put into placed and line up ive sheet metal and drilled it along the edge that would sit on top of the box section and puddled weld it. just need to finsh the end floor to box support. i also used new mounts saves a lot of time trying to fix them.

I'm replacing the driver's side sill now, cos I have the box section and it seemed like such a good idea at the time

Anyway, cut away most of the old sill, rot and patches and all, but now need to cut out the old body mounts. The rear one doesn't look too bad to get to, but I'm completely stumped on the front one.

Do I need to cut away some of the A pillar so I can get in there with the grinder? Anyone got some handy tips???

Been a total bitch to get so far, now just the body mounts to remove and then I can start reassembling. One of those days when I wish I hadn't started...

I was hoping to weld the body mounts onto the box section off the vehicle, I'll see how practical that is after I removed everything, but I'm hoping I can as my lying-on-my-back-welding-upwards technique is pretty atrocious. Anyone else had experience of fitting a box section sill with the body mounts in place?

And yes, I have searched...
