My defender 110 has an embarrassing problem, he’s leaking some oil from his rear half shaft at the wheel. It is coming out of the dust cap. Not a lot of oil but started when traveling the rough gravel F roads of Iceland. I could top up diff or get it repaired (prob not cheap in Iceland). Any suggestions what to do (we are away for another 2 months and expect to drive another 4-5k km before getting back to Ireland). Anybody know of a cheap Land Rover Indy in Iceland?

We have at least one member in Iceland and he says that everything has to be ordered in from the UK, if you have a stable location where you will be for a few weeks then order parts and get them shipped, but I would be more than certain that a leaking half shaft seal would be easily bush fixed with a bit of gasket sealant or a gasket fashioned from a sheet of brown paper.

Edited to add: if it is the little plasticcy rubbery cap this could be remedied temporarily with a dollop of high melting point grease inside it to slow the seep of oil.

Thanks, I’ll try the grease and brown paper suggestions. Iceland is a wonderful place to explore with a defender
