I am looking to fit a rear end dash cam. I can run live all the way from fuse box at front, but would be nicer to get a live from the rear end if possible. Am I right in thinking the wires for the rear light clusters are all only live when lights are on? Or is there a switch and/or permanent live at the rear inside the tailgate by any chance?
thanks

It should be a permannent live in connector C1481 pin 6(purple/brown wire) , remove the the RH tail lamp cluster for it

Actually while I was at the boot I also noticed the boot speakers are really muffled (sound like playing under water). I assumed the speakers are knackered but then I wondered if they are meant to sound like that (i..e bass speakers), do you know?
I was told this disco doesn't have harmon kardon system, and I didn't think so either as no HK badges anywhere but I saw a little metal box under front passenger seat (there's a cd multichanger under driver seat) - Maybe that's an amp

I'm not the man to speak about I.C.E., i simply dont bother with it, let's hope somebody more involved in it will enlighten you

no probs thanks. Just read your signature line. Can I ask what you get out of your TD5 to the gallon? I just remapped mine. I got 28mpg on a very long (economical) run. Next tank (after remap) did 33.5mpg doing more local driving and around town. Very impressed with that! Now considering the EGR/Intercooler and perhaps other upgrades.

If you are getting 33+ I wouldn't bother! That is stonking! Hoped you measured correctly! with my auto 28 mpg is good, but then I have no remap or anything.

Yes I was pretty amazed. Will check again, I check every fill up (using total miles against number of litres on receipt). Mine is a manual. I remember getting max 28 (more like 26 usually) in my auto, one of the reasons I went for manual this time, but still I am very impressed with that. Tyres weren't great either, just fitted four brand new ones so hoping that may help a bit too. Friend of mine had 40 out of his manual Disco, but that had had every upgrade possible including a stonking great big intercooler. He only got that on a very long motorway run doing a firm 70mph, but still bloody amazing considering what a brick it is.

by the way, don't you have a rear auxiliary plug? Nearside, in front of panier, or whatever? You could wire it from that.
Ah, rear fag plug, yes there is. Duh, thanks!

This is only accurate if you fill right up every time and as we all know, getting to the brim on a TD5 takes for ever and a lot of shaking the best to get rid of the bubbles. You have to burp it worsen a baby! But if you is doin this and getting that mileage, respec bro!:)

that's not permannent live

didnt he hit the night table with his elbow and woke up then? ... IMO that's nearly impossible unless he had a strong tail wind all the way

A/ of course it isn't permanent live, but I doubt he wants to run his batt down with a camera constantly recording his garage door!:rolleyes::rolleyes: but
B/ it would come on as soon as he turns the key and then he could reverse his car and see what is going on so he don't hit his garage door!!!!!:D:D:D:D:D

But YES agree about his mate's car. Sounds like a bit of penis-fencing to me!

I hear ya. I called BS on it. He swore blind, and he isn't the type to do BS. 65 year old disco fanatic, he told me to ask his brother who was with him. I did, and he said "yep, I could believe it, but i borrowed it for a long trip a few months back and I got 39 over very long journey so it 's genuine". I believe him, but understand why others wont. When he told me he said "nobody would believe this and you probably won't but...." - he knows it's exceptional, but then he did spend about 2k on upgrades, a big remap (twice the power boost of mine) and even he didn't expect that. He doens't get it day to day, only on a long straight run at sensible speeds. But even his daily average aroud the lanes is mid 30s, and now that I have seen 33.5 out of mine (accurate brim to brim) I can believe it even if i thought he was a bull****ter, which he aint.

haha. whatever trevor :D. No it's a dashcam not a reversing cam. I wanted the permanent live because the camera can be used off that, where it turns off after 15 mins or 1 hour of no activity, then starts up if it detects motion on a shock sensor inside, handy if someone bumps into my car in a car park, 'gotcha mofo'!! (As has happened to me before grrrr)

OK @sierrafery 1 @Stanleysteamer nil !!!!!!
As for the mpg, I did once meet a guy with a Disco 1 who did nothing other than fit an intercooler off a Range Rover and he found just doing that upped his mpg a long way. I have always wanted to do this but the Disco 1 is off the road now as I have too much to do and the TD5 to maintain. So that plus a remap and a steady run at 70 or less may well do even better.
Anyway if I, non techy as I am, wanted a permanent live, i'd take it off the batt, or look for the feed that maintains the radio or alarm things and T off them. But if you need real power, off the batt through a fuse, pain though the wiring might be, would be safe if not elegant.

that live i pointed in my first reply in this thread is permanent live from Fuse F9(30A) egine bay and it's used only for FBH which was not factory fitted for UK market so a clean direct 30A circuit in this case

Man, you always come up with a neat solution.
Even though he did say "Switched or permanent".
The difference between you and me is you is like a plastic surgeon and I is like a butcher! Your patients are more likely to live and look nice after!:):):)

Maybe my english is not good enough but what i understood from the first post is that the man wants a permanent live hence his statement

He did also say this:
Or is there a switch and/or permanent live at the rear inside the tailgate by any chance?
Hence my remark re the "fag plug" and no mate, your English is very good indeed! (Switched as in switched on at the ignition) maybe he could put a switch in the wire he will have to take from the underbonnet area.

So, he has the choice, a ready made fused feed in the engine compartment, or a direct connection to the battery and an inline fuse, in the engine compartment.
So, as I said in my other post, the difference between your scalpel and my butcher's knife! Neat or not so neat but the poor bug ger has still got to run a wire to the rear of the vehicle!
