Hope someone will be able to help, went to open the rear door this morning, pressed the unlock on the key and the button went up, to the unlock position ( motor in the door clunked as normal) Pulled the door handle and nothing! feels like it's not connected.
Tryed the interior handle and nothing. locked and unlocked the door again all seems fine, button up and down. just feels like the handles and connected.
How do i fix it?
Hope it's any easy job as im not very machnical.

I have the same issue. You need to replace the mechanism.
For emergency access, pull the door card off from inside ( careful with the clips-unless youve riveted a chequer one on then its a bitch! ) & give the rod that connects to the exterior handle a vigorous wiggle-this should free it temporarily enough to open from the outside-it wont make it open using the interior handle. Get someone to operate the exterior handle at the same time you are actuating the rod from inside.
Once open, either fit new mechanism (20 minute job) or remove the old one, chuck it in a bucket of brake cleaner for an hour. Use an old brush to free the crap on it. Liberally use white grease & or WD40 on all moving parts.
Lock/Unlock the mechanism teeth with a flat head screwdriver to get it moving smoothly.
Refit if necessary...mine works for a few weeks after each refit-Id rather keep fixing it for now.
Think a new one is about £40 from LR....
good luck! :)

On my key fob it takes one press of the button to lock the doors but TWO presses to unlock the rear door. On the first press I hear the rear door mechanism movement and the 2nd press it is a more pronounced clunk and then unlocked.

I do have the double click opening, but it's not that.
Hope to have a look in the next couple of hours.

Well i have just spent the last hour taking the door to bits from the boot (not easy) Didn't have a socket set to get the big door handle off so made things tricky!!!
Finally looked at the lock and rods and springs all looked ok, so very flummoxed!!!
So i was stuck, thought it would be a trip to the garage, came in to look at a few forums and came across this,

With a small screwdriver pop the LR badge out of the back door handle, get some WD40 and squirt it on the mechanism that you can see once the badge is out.

Give the handle a few wiggles and it should open ..............

Had to go and buy some WD40, but IT WORKED. gave all the internals a good soaking,

Lets see how it goes.

I had exactly the same problem and it was the external handle seizing on its spindle and not returning. As I didn't know about taking the green oval off I ended up taking it out from inside. After freeing off it works fine now.

Sorry - didn't see this before or I would have said. Standard problem on ALL disco models. Mine does it about once a year. WD40 should keep it going for a while. Keep a small screwdriver in front of car to prize off the oval next time it happens.

It's funny but my previous series 1 V8 never suffered from it in 7 years. Otherwise I'd have known about taking the badge out.....
