hi all

i have a 1996 300tdi that never had the rear door speakers fitted im trying to do this from scratch, i found the plug at the rear door but now need to find the wiring at the head unit end.

really getting ****ed with this now, ive tried for 2 days now to find the red & black wire that carry the audio signal to the rear door speakers, ive got the whole front console of and all the side panels but no joy.

can anyone help me locate where they will be, i think ive found them behind the glove box but not 100% sure? but after that ive lost them again.they are on a plug that then goes of into a mass of wires.
Ive looked at all the threads relating to this on here and all are really helpful but i need some help on where to look now?

many thanks

tony

Would the wires not come from the amp under the passenger seat?

Had a quick look at RAVE for the Disco II (dont have it for the Disco I) and it would appear to be dependent on the stereo fitted. High line wires come from the amp.

D2 info for a D1 system now that is confusing...

Now for ant.7, asumming the plug you have found is the supply for the boot door amp/bass loudspeaker then other end of the wiring will appear in one of the ISO plugs that plug into your headunit, my head unit has two and it was the grey one IIRC.

In the door plug plug you will have a perminant 12v feed, a 12v switched feed (I have the colours somewhere) and two wires one black the other white, that'a the audio feed which is red and black at the head unit and then a single black wire to earth.

If you have the above wiring then you are "wired for sound" if you can't find the red black wiring then you will have to run a screened pair cable to the door from the head unit. This is quite an easy job other than getting the cable into the head unit housing from the fuse box area, that will take a bit of time.

if its a d1 then the amp is in the box that houses the subs in the rear door. trying to get mine to work however somebody has removed the amp on mine. Anyways the wiring runs down the drivers side under the carpet next to the tread plate trims, from there goes behind the kick plate under the dash. from there, it goes in past the fuse box, and then up to the headunit

my rear door speakers didnt work when i got mine..

amp was missin off rear door speakers.. got another set from scrappers..

they are fed by the red/black wires..

from memory i think they go to one of the connector plugs that goes in to the head unit..

mine had a pink one and i think white connector.. if ya remove head unit and give the wiring a bit of a wiggle the 2nd connector if not used falls down inside dash and gets hooked on stuff..

thanks guys, loads of great info.
i think i found it, im connecting it up this weekend, so fingers crossed.

ill post some pics and info if it all works.

thanks again

tony

I await with baited breath the child-like scribblings:rolleyes:
Don't forget the piccies mate, as well as pointing out all the bollocks other folk have said;):D

I must admit that reading it back I am confused as to whether its rear passenger door speakers or the amp unit on the tailgate/back door thats being discussed now ....

So,,,G , is the stereo wiring different to the rest of the wiring , in that elsewhere the same looms are used whether parts are fitted or not ? I have several D1s that do not have features fitted but have the wiring for them , front fogs , heated windscreen etc . I am asking purely in the spirit of enquiry . Also , not having bought any of my vehicles new I dont know what was supplied as standard on that particular one and what was had as an optional extra - none of the D1s that I have owned have appeared to be "standard" , as it were . They have all had items that do not fit the "standard" spec list but I wouldnt know if they were supplied that way or altered later . Again , I am genuinely interested to know .

update guys

still no joy!

ive checked continuity between the red/black wire from the tailgate amp to the connector under the headunit all is good, ive also checked that i have power and alls good on that score!
but still no joy.

a quick reminder if you would, how do i connect up the rca plugs to my headunit. ive soldered up both the braided outer wire and the centre one, so where do i connect these to? the red or black wire? on the back of my head unit there is a sub out L/R(red/white) and rear out L/R(red/white). which wire do i plug in which colour?

also ive borrowed another amp of GRATCH so ill give that a whirl to elliiminate the amp being knackered

im relying on you guys!!

cheers

tony
