Hi Guys,

Apologies for this as there have been various threads about it previously but I'm still confused! (Yes, I have used Search!).

One of my rear disks has warped - slightly annoyed as it's only just out of warranty from the local indie that fitted them at huge expense just after I bought it.

I need to replace it but I don't want to put on cheap ones that will just warp again. At the same time I don't want to put on stupidly expensive ones. All my usual suppliers seem to sell exactly the same range of disks (even seem to be the same photos!) but none of them state who makes them (apart from the Britpart drilled and grooved ones and they'd be a no-no for no other reason than they're Britpart). Also, I can't see the point of drilled and grooved ones on a RR, especially on the rear. Wouldn't the drillings and grooves cause a problem with mud?

Anyway, can anyone recommend a set of reasonable disks and a supplier? I suppose OEM would probably be best but they're very expensive.

Also, I've heard it suggested that the cross head securing screw be replaced with a countersunk allen bolt. Anyone know the size?

All discs can warp expensive ones, cheap ones it makes no difference. Uneven heat buildup is the cause. Rule #1 is new discs and pads no hard braking (unless in an emergency) for 250 miles. New pads on old discs see rule #1. Bet you have recently changed your pads??? Expensive slotted and drilled are a waste of space for normal use standard is all you need.

Nope, I haven't touched them since the indie replaced them. I'm only doing them now because I have to. I suspect the caliper might be binding slightly on that side so I'll strip it all out and clean the buggery out of it when I do it this time. I kind of expected it to have been done properly last time given how long they claimed it took them, but perhaps not.

I have had Britpart discs on for over 4 years and they have given me no problems whatsoever. They are still flat and hardly scored. Personally I can't see what all the paranoia about Britpart is about. The Air springs I bought were in a Britpart box but "Dunlop" was moulded on the springs.

Not too sure about the countersunk screws other than they are either M8 or M10 X 10mm long. I always replace the dics & drum screws with Allen key type, far better than the Pozidrive crap they fit as standard. I don't think Britpart make screws !!!!

If you buy aftermarket discs, whether Allmakes, Britpart,Bearmach etc. there is every chance they have come from the same manufacturer. If you are looking for a branded name, look at Ferodo or AP, again every chance they have been made abroad,

its the wheel that holds disc on the screws are only to stop coming off while changing wheels are you sure its warped and not just sticking piston or slides

Yup. When I rotate the wheel the disc catches on the pads in one place and I'm getting vibration on braking.

So Irish, are you suggesting it doesn't matter what brand I stick on there as they're probably all made by the same factory in China anyway?

So I should just got for the £12.99 ones then...? Hmm.

I thought it'd be easy to find new disks! They seem to vary in price from about £12.99 to £300 but with no indication as to quality/brand/etc.

The £300.00 ones will be much better i would go for those. They take your dog for a walk and washup for you aswell. How the bloody hell can anybody justify spending that much on a piece of metal apart from maybe slightly better material, it costs just as much to make the £12.99 ones as it does to make the £300.00 ones.

I did laugh when I saw that price.

Yeah Guy but the point is some prat will pay that much thinking they are getting something much better than the standard disc. For me they rate just as high as magnetic fuel savers and the like. A total waste of time and money.

Ok, I'm going to go with some low-mid priced ones then and cross my fingers.

I fitted Britpart rear disks last week to my DSE. They are a perfect fit and well made. They were bought from Island 4x4. Use Mintex pads though. I have a set of Britpart front discs going on this weekend. I normally never buy Britpart but the discs do seem to be good quality this time.

Just over 4 years ago I bought a kit comprising two rear Britpart discs and a set of Ferodo pads after I had a sticky rear caliper piston causing the friction material to wear away on one side of the car and f**k the disc up.
Fitted the cheap (****e, according to some on here) Britpart discs and pads supplied by Island 4x4 (Reccomended by the same knockers of Britpart as a first class parts source).
The pads have been changed since but the cheap, crap discs remain in excellent condition.
Mind you, I am not in the habit of doing 80-0 stops in 3 seconds...if you want a motor you can drive like a sports car, buy a Subaru or the like.

i think coming to dead stop after braking hard (esp keeping foot on brake) can warp disks. Hot pads and calipers heat the disk locally.... I've no evidence to support this, but I've convinced myself it's true and always try to roll on a bit after stopping. Haven't warped a disk since I've been doing this, so that proves it :)

Just for info I have fitted the front Britpart discs. They are a perfect fit and very well made! So good quality Britpart discs fitted front and rear and only £16 per disc. Mintex pads all round though.

Great stuff. Personally, I keep to Mintex, Ferodo or AP Lockheed pads, never had a problem with any of them and they are comptitively priced.

Give us some feedback on the discs when you have had them on a while.
