FFS make it easy why don't ya :doh:

L can be early 300 which is 24 or late 200 which can be 10 spline, just a note, I have seen a couple of 24spline 200s but this also depends on whether it's been phucked around with???

Can you show a pic of the drive flanges on the wheel end of the axle?

Thick flanges like this on the front are 10 spline



If they look like this, then 24 spline.

As It's been lifted it's worth getting a four bolt diff and a 200tdi rear prop.
Then you wont need to worry about the doughnut going.
 
Better to ask if it has a doughnut fitted surely? I can't for the life of me find reference to a doughnut anywhere in the thred so far??? Never seen one on a 200 or anything earlier than '96 happy to be proved wrong though.

Good point, was asumeing all 300's had a doughnut.

Ha I did something similar years ago, bloke gave me a free Mk2 Escort Estate, it was taxed, MOT, even had service bills. "broke down, overheated etc"

I changed the head gasket in his driveway, started first turn, sounded very sweet, he didnt mind, actually I think he was pleased I didnt scrap it, drove it for 3 years before rust got it!

Not wishing to sound a party pooper, but, your seller isnt using an, easy fix, bad diff, to cover up something else up, is he?
 
I was too busy to go take a look tonight but was planning on going tomorrow evening. He's just messaged me saying it's worse than he thought, it doesn't drive at all and he can spin the prop freely by hand...is this a ####ed transfer box?
 
depends if gear box is in neutral hand brake off it will turn if you have 1 rear wheel jacked up or a break in the drive train in rear axle with wheels on the floor
 
Hmmm seems confusing! Sorry for all the questions, just trying to work out if it's worth it...
So you reckon the diff could be okay, or maybe that's ####ed and bent the half shafts?
