Hi everyone,

Is it possible to tighten the check strap/check strap pin(s) on the rear passenger doors?? It's a 2005 freelander. They're loose and make a noise when you open and shut the doors?? Tryed lubricating them numerous times but obviously it just greases them and they seem loose because of the noise and the movement of the pin thing?!
Hope you can help peeps!???

Thanks!!

One of mine used to do that. Turned out two of the spot welds holding the check strap bracket inside the door pillar had parted company. That was an interesting re-weld. Pillar trim off, seatbelt inertia reel out, drivers seat out and then I finally had access (just) to get in there with my welder. Swine of a job. And I gad to do it again a few weeks later as my first attempt pinged apart

Bloody hell! I don't think I'll bother if I have to do all that!! My old mazda used to do it and it literally was just a tighten so I was hoping this was going to be? "/

It got to the point where I could barely shut the door such was the carnage in the pillar:(

Yours may not be this tho;)

I don't know of a way to tighten it up I'm afraid. Never seen anything obvious there.

The check bar (strap) gets stiff over time. This is caused by the grease solidifying. Plenty of regular lubricant can prevent this. Once the bar has been stiff for some time, the bracket on the pillar breaks free. The only cure is to re weld the bracket as described by Creeeg.
