hi all, i have a 2001 disco td5, i am in my 3rd year of ownership. i was very happy with the condition of the body when i bought it although the rear o/s chassis leg did look a bit scabby around where the tow bar lower bracket bolt fits. i have had no problem with the last 2 mots but was told it might need some attention before next mot in september.
i did a quick inspection about 3 weeks ago, as i am getting ready for the new season of caravaning and was amazed at how quickly it had deteriorated since last september. as i intend to keep the car i didnt fancy the idea of chasing rust around the rear chassis over the next couple of years, i went the route of rear quarter chassis replacement.
who to do it, which one to buy and how much to spend.
i decided the advert on ebay by RJB vehicle services in Tiverton devon seemed fair value and was about as far as wanted to travel from Caerphilly (86 miles).
I would like to say what a cracking job he did and a nice guy too.
arrived at his place at 8am he dropped me and the wife off at tiverton parkway station, we bought a day return ticket to exeter for a total of £12.50
had a good day out and had a phone call at 15.30 to say all was done. he picked us up on our return all in for £600 and we were home in the house by 19.00.
very happy, i hope this might help other people who are considering the same.

I too had problems with both rear chassis legs, on my Disco 2 TD5 after much searching and finding the "regular" offerings on eBay etc (which are around 600mm long) I found this site-
http://www.rkdmachineshopservices.co.uk/default.html

Their workmanship is second to non, I Went for supply only and the legs are around 700mm long. Strengthened internally and sealed at the rears (near tow bar). I got two legs and rear tow bar mounting cross beam, mounting points and bolts.
Try these guys out, not the cheapest but certainly first class. I paid £450.00 plus Delivery (to Scotland).
Talk to "Skip". He's great, and be sure of a super product. I did my own welding.
See their web site and blog. Advice given by them is sound.
Hope this helps too.
