i'm replacing the rear mounting brackets, and read on here that i need to lift the body to weld them . . . . how do i do this please

where do i position the jack, and do i need to remove any other fixings or will i be ok with just the 2 im replacing? also how easilly does the body lift?

The real problem is getting the old ones OFF ! Get some new rubbers and the liner bush as the bolt will most like have rusted in.Cant remember where exactly I jacked mine......find a solid bit of body and use wood blocks to spread the pressure. You only have to jack up a little to support the weight of the body off the chassis....too much and you will make it even harder so go easy. And if its a weekend job go buy everything you may need now, bolts, washers, bushes, grinder discs, gas, whatever cos odds on you WILL need them.

Oh,and if you are doing both,it may be an idea to only attack and jack one side at a time. The YRM brackets are much better than the run of the mill e bay ones.I used a nylon bush liner from a tractor supplier, rummaged around till I found one that fit

I used YRM n'all
once the old ones were grinded out I got a bar inbetween chassis and bumper and used it as a lever to slide some blocks of wood in.
Make sure you get plenty of bare metal around the new brackets for a clean weld :)

i gave my disco a 2" lift by inserting body to chassis spacers.

there are 10 body bolts. 5 each side
2 under the rear bumper
2 under the c pillar base (access inner cill)
2 under the a pillar base (access though grommet in floor pan)
2 on chassis, engine bay side of bulkhead
2 by the radiator.

then there are 4 seatbelt anchor clevises.
2 for the back above rear axle
2 for the front side of gearbox

once you got all that lot loosened off you can use a jack on a long thick block of wood under the sills to lift the body up.

best loosen it all off but leave the bolts in place, then do one side at a time.

carfull not to lift too much as you may rip the gearbox transfer tunnel gasket rubber, and keep an eye to locate the radiator mounts when lowering.

Imperial bolts and nuts IIRC

good luck.
