Disco 1 Rear brake discs

I'm having to renew my rear brake discs so can anyone give me any easy steps? It looks like I will have to remove the axle stubs to change them. That looks like fun!!

Wheel off ! half shaft out ! big nuts of bearing ! PULL ! O and the brake caliper off !

Make sure you have a good spanner / socket for the brake caliper bolts. Mine were very tight.

Would it be worth a drop of wd40 tonight to soak in for tomorrow?

No just a wire brush so that you can see wot heads are on the bolts that hold the caliper on ! Should be 12 sided

1/2 inch bihex socket is best for cailper bolts,14mm bihex for disc to hub bolts,dont hit the hub when separating disc from hub hit the disc

My son has buggered off with my axle stands!!!! Good old Amazon prime!! Not going to start untill they get here.

Am I being a bit thick or do they really use 12 sided heads on the bolts?

No that's correct, gives a better grip on the bolt

WIMP How yu gunna learn !???? All you have to watch is that you DON'T kink the brake pipe

I had the bushes done at the same time, totally agree I should have done it myself as I have with everything else but time became more important than money on this occasion. MOT is due this month, would have definitely failed as it turns out. The steering is actually pretty good on a D1 once all the wobbly bits have been replaced!

I was talking about the bolt. A 12 point socket is more likely to round off hex bolts than a hex socket. I have never seen 12 sided heads on bolts.

Not if it fits correctly! More surface contact. That's like saying a loose shoe will cause blisters!!

On the contrary, there's less surface contact when using a 12 sided socket on a hex bolt or nut. Drop a nut into a socket, and you would find that the 12 sided socket only grips on to the ridges of the hex. Each to their own I guess, but when I can help it, I have always used hex sockets for hex bolts and nuts and vice versa
