Hi need some help please.

I have a 1985 defender Landy 90. It has a disco 200 tdi conversion and a different rear axle with disc brakes. All the how to threads show there is only one rear oil seal but when I took mine apart it has an inner and outer with spring inside.

The half shaft came out in a oner and appears to be part of the outer cap. Ie no circlip to remove the shaft etc. the stub axle has a flat spot at the 9oclock position for the locking tab instead of a groove at the 12 position.

Can anyone tell me how many seals this should have and how to fit the outer seal, which way etc.

Many thanks,
G.

2 seals, inner as normal and outer with rubber edge spacer that keeps oil from wheel bearings ,on outer garter spring goes to the outside ,later axles used a seal in stub axle that runs on machined surface on half shaft ,
