I've got a 1991 200tdi defender 90.
I'm going to replace the rear drum brake axel with one from a disco with disc brakes.

I know you can use the early disco axels. I believe the 200 and 300 tdi ones. Do the TD5 axels fit?

I'd like to swap to an axel that uses the same half shafts and diff as my current axel that way I can keep my old one as a spare. Is this possible?

yes td5 axles fit, they are still basically the 300 axle

Not wishing to hi jack your thread but I am following this with interest. I have a 1990, 200 tdi , 110 with a Salisbury rear axle which has drum brakes. Is there anyway I can keep the Salisbury axle but fit disc brakes on the rear. Does a conversion kit exist.

The more the merrier! I seem to remember reading that you can convert it but it's a pain in the ass. Could be wrong tho

you can fit disc wheel stations and half shafts in the drum salisbury

Anyone know if there's a disco disc brake axel that uses the same half shafts and differential as the defender 200tdi drum brake axel?

I do quite like the idea of disks on the back of my 200Tdi 90, so may go for it sometime.
Big question for me is how would it effect the breaking, apart from it being more effective that is, would there need to be a pressure limiting valve in the system to stop the rears locking up. Or is there already one there??
