Hi guys, me again. As some of you might recollect I've got a p38 4.0. Runs then dies after 20mins on a good day. Removed heads and put them back on with new gaskets. Ran it, revs on and off, 10mins in, started hesitating under load, you can rev through it, then come off accelerator and it will cut out. Left it overnight, went back to it the following evening, and thought start it up, work away and leave it till it cuts out. Half hour later, still running, revs it, picks up nicely revs through nice, no cutting out. Bit of black smoke but put that down to old stuff still in the exhaust. Oil light on when idling just over 500rpm. Put that down to coolant mixing with oil when heads were removed. Thought not too bad looks like the problems solved, just some teething issues to get through.
A couple of days later I moved it over on my drive, started nice, drove it 50 metres if that and dead, no acceleration and lots of popping and banging, my mate said you could smell fuel out the exhaust. Thought maybe because it hasn't been on the road for a few years the gas was out of sync, so turned the screws down on the valve, to try and stop the gas.
Had a couple of hours to myself today, so thought I would have another mess with it. As I hadn't tried it with the screws turned down. Put the battery on that was going flat from the previous night and it started straight away, left it running giving it a rev every now and again and after 10 mins was revving flat again, and cutting out when on idle. So left it a bit drained the oil out, refilled it, then started up again. Still missing and popping and cutting out. So thought I'd have a go at putting some Silverseal block sealer in it, undone the radiator plug, and got the majority of coolant out. Started it up to try and circulate any remainder through the engine and out through the radiator drain plug. Giving it some revs and out of nowhere bluey/grey smoke appeared from out the exhaust and the oil light came on when idling again!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Please anyone got any ideas, left it for now overnight to see if anymore water drains out of it, then I might venture with the block sealer, or am I just wasting my time? At this rate it will be going back up for sale :( :( :(
